Privacy Policy

Effective October 7, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Nevermind Software, LLC (“Nevermind”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the past lives iOS app (the “app”).

The short version. past lives runs entirely on your device. There are no accounts, no Nevermind servers, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking software in the app.

We never receive, collect, store, or transmit your photos, videos, or any personal information. The only data the app touches is your photo library, and it does that on your device, with your permission, through Apple’s PhotoKit framework.

1. What the app accesses on your device

Your photo library

past lives is a viewer for the Live Photos already in your Apple Photos library. When you grant photo access, the app uses PhotoKit to read your Live Photos and the details Photos stores with them: when each one was taken, whether it is marked as a favorite, the location saved with it (if any), and which albums and shared albums it belongs to. The app uses this only to build and sort your feed.

You decide how much access to give. iOS lets you allow all photos or only selected ones (“Limited Access”), and you can change or revoke access at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos.

Why the app asks for write access

Some actions in the app change your library at your request: marking a Live Photo as a favorite, and deleting a Live Photo. That is why the app asks for read-and-write access. It never adds to, changes, or deletes anything in your library except in direct response to something you do in the app.

Photo locations

If a Live Photo has a location saved with it, the app may show where it was taken. To turn those coordinates into a place name (for example, a city and region), the app uses the geocoding service built into iOS. Apple handles that lookup on your device’s behalf under Apple’s privacy policy; we do not receive it. The app does not use your device’s current location and never asks for location permission.

iCloud Photos

If a Live Photo is stored in iCloud rather than on your device, the app asks iOS to download it so it can be played. That download happens between your device and Apple’s iCloud. We are not involved.

2. What stays on your device

3. Notifications

past lives can optionally send a “daily drop” reminder to look back at a Live Photo. These are local notifications that the app schedules on your device; there is no push notification server. The app asks for notification permission only if you turn the feature on, and you can turn it off in the app or in iOS Settings at any time.

4. Sharing

When you share a Live Photo from the app, iOS’s standard share sheet is used. Whatever you share goes directly to the app or service you choose (Messages, Mail, and so on) under that service’s own terms and privacy policy. We do not see or receive anything you share.

5. Information we do not collect

The app does not collect any of the following, and it has no way to send us data:

This page is part of our website, nevermind.llc, which is separate from the app. The website counts its visits with PostHog, an analytics service: which pages are viewed, the site that linked to them, the browser, the kind of device, and an approximate location estimated from the IP address, which PostHog then discards. It stores nothing in your browser (no cookies), honors your browser’s Do Not Track setting, and is never connected to the app. PostHog processes this on our behalf in the United States under its own privacy policy.

6. Apple and the App Store

The app is distributed through Apple’s App Store. Apple may collect information about your download and use of the app under Apple’s Privacy Policy. If you have chosen to share analytics and crash data with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash reports. These do not include your photos and do not identify you.

7. Children

past lives is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.

8. Your rights and choices

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete. Everything the app uses lives in your Photos library and in on-device app storage that you control directly: change or revoke photo access in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos, and delete the app to remove all of its on-device data.

9. Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the app handles data (for example, if a future version adds an optional online feature), we will update this policy and the effective date above, and note material changes in the app or its App Store release notes.
